Attempt at comment wituhot too many spoilers:- Ending: I think it was better than in the novel. More logical, less WTF. Plus, they avoided a whole subplot that wasn’t necessary imo.- Story: On the whole, I think they did a good job. Pretty true to the book, at least the important bits. However, I was a bit dissappointed that they dumbed down a whole lot of dialogues, for which I can’t find another reason than pleasing lazy audiences, as the dialogues weren’t shorter in dumbed down version, only more obvious/in your face/shallow. Examples: almost every dialogue involving Silk Spectre I, the long SS II Dr. Manhattan dialogue, or SSII Night Owl II, Ozymandias – Acting: I think Rorschach was great: he added a whole human dimension that was less visible in the comic. It made him heartwrenching. The Comedian was brilliant, too, and although I add doubts about Billy Crudup’s soft huggable voice for Dr. Manhattan at first, he totally pulled me in after a while. Night Owl was acceptable. However, the ladies, damn, need to go back to acting school (or should never have become actresses ). Terribly flat, fake, just plain bad imo. I couldn’t stand watching their terrible acting . Both SSI and SSII were terrible, and even side character Janey Slater couldn’t convey any believable emotion. Maybe their complete lack of talent is why they dumbed down the dialogues in the first place (watching them speak is painful, and I don’t think they’re able to convey an non-verbal language). Also, what did they do with the costume! The shiny latex looks terribly out of place compared to all the 80 s like outfits. Fan service is okay, but not to the point where it rapes characters – On the whole, it was an okay adaptation, but it could have been so much better wituhot more budget, if only some mainstream-pleasing whoring would have been avoided.
