Why indeed. Why use Windows at all really. But I digress…
This [article at Linux-Watch](http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS8517467708.html) questions why people still use it and recommends [FireFox](http://www.mozilla.com/firefox) as a better alternative to IE.
> OK, how many times must Internet Explorer be ripped open like a hot 16-year old in a summer slasher movie before people finally get it: IE is not safe. Period. End of Statement.
There are lots of web browsers out there. They’re all free to try out. Some have a time limit but they’re still free to download and try.
If you use MS WindowsΓ’βΒ’, it’s in your best interests to at least consider the alternatives and give them a genuine try.
why? because even if you use nLite to cut all the crap outta windows, you still discover that the DHCP component requires the SNMP component, which requires the HTML Help component, which requires, yes you guessed it, Internet Explorer !!!! and this is just the beginning of the DLL minefield. In essence if you’re on Windows, you stuck with IE, and that just means that most people don’t bother using anything else, which is, of course, just the way Microsoft intended it.
BTW hi jono
I basically see Windows as a means to get a Mac. It’s just what you use until you can justify putting $4,400 on your credit card to get the best damn computer you’ve ever owned. π
No, seriously, though – someone was asking me what the best texteditor was for editing code the other day in some forum for Windows or Linux… and I was like… “well, the best editor is TextMate – but it’s Mac-only, so you should save up for a Mac and buy one to use TextMate”.
This bloggin stuff is totally addictive π yeah π
Ooh, your theme uses Ajax Goodness… π Nice work π I’m impressed! :=)
I think also part of the reason is that most people perceive installing something as somethiing “technical”, too hard.
There’s also the ‘sheep factor’ – the desire to ‘fit in’.
Whatever you say about Microsoft, they’re excellent at marketing. So good that most people think there’s no alternative.
