I woke to the sound of wind and rain, the arrhythmic pattern punctuated by the long ominous grumble of thunder.
I drifted back to sleep only to be woken again. This time it was the thud thud of hammers and the shrill screech of drilling. The hotel is undergoing renovations, so this will be my morning alarm every day.
By now it was late morning and I was pretty hungry, So off we wandered down Central Pattaya Road until we eventually found a place called, V Charoen Seafood. Despite the delicious-looking range of seafood, I ordered a stir-fried chicken with lemongrass. It was sooo good. I could see there was garlic, chilli, shallots, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves.
The afternoon drifted into evening and it was time for dinner, Australia was playing Ireland in the rugby World Cup. Naturally we wound up at a pub. I ordered an “Australian Tenderloin” steak, which was served with roast veges and mashed potato. The photo in the menu looked better than what was served. The cut of steak was small and tough, the mashed potato looked like it had been scooped with an ice-cream scoop,
That evening, we went the Hard Rock Cafe – downstairs. An all-female pop / rock band, the V’Nex Band was on. They were playing familiar covers and I have to say, they were very good. They were tight, showed great musicianship, and played the songs faithfully and passionately. They even took requests – I asked for Jump by Van Halen and Tom Sawyer by Rush (of course). They played Jump! I have video evidence!
They finished their set with a lot of the audience dancing in a chain around the tables.
Time for bed.
